Fourth day, boat trip to Stromboli: one of the most active volcanoes in the world and the most active in Europe. Do not miss the famous "Sciara del fuoco", a steep slope, formed by lava, which descends from the Stromboli crater to the sea. Local boatmen know when and where to admire it at its best.

Third day, another boat trip, this time heading to Panarea, famous for being the most fashionable of the Aeolian Islands. The island is very small, there isn't much to see but a couple of trendy shops. The boat trip is the best way to visit the beautiful coves, such as Cala Junco.

On our fifth day we took a bot trip to Salina, the second largest of the Aeolian Islands, but one of the wildest. It is covered in woods and is famous for its vineyards. You can spend the day hiking or sunbathing on one of the beautiful beaches: Pollara, where the movie Il Postino was filmed, is the most famous. Tip: have lunch at Da Alfredo for the best "pani cunzato".

Salina

Second day, second island: we took an early morning boat trip with a local boatman and spent the whole day up and down the boat. We highly recommend the hike to the top of the volcano (45min-1h) which is tiring, especially in summer, but is an unforgettable experience. On top of the volcano the lunar landscape and the sulfur fumes make it a unique place of its kind.

On our fist night in Lipari we decided to have dinner in this super famous restaurant. Filippino is certainly the most renowned restaurant in Lipari and the Aeolian Islands. It is located at the top of the island so you can enjoy superb views while eating. While it might seem a little old-fashioned, service and food are impeccable.

Delicious food and perfect service. The staff were one of the nicest we've had in Italy. Wine was delicious ! Very good value !

Ristorante da Filippino a Lipari

On our first day in Lipari we decided to take rent a motorbike and take a tour of the island beaches. Valle Muria is definitely the most beautiful: it's never crowded because it takes 20-25min from the main road to walk there, water is cristal clear and warm.

The beach is very pretty and the water is crystal clear.
Reason for three stars is the long and exhausting hike that is needed to get there, plus the complete lack of amenities (bring your own water, food, umbrella). It takes around 30 min walk on very steep path through sandy, rocky trails. Definitely wear sneakers and a hat for the scorching sun.

Nice little beach, best accessible via boat. But you can also drive near the valley and walk for 15min straight to the beach.

Beautiful small beach, all pebbles and no sand. The view is splendid. The path to the beach is ten minutes or so steep downhill and the only way is on foot. Parking is on the road so be careful. No amenities except maybe in summer when a local entrepreneur sells drinks

On the last day we took the longest boat trip of the week to both Filicudi and Alicudi. Alicudi is the smallest of the Aeolian Islands, there are not even roads / cars and it can only be reached by boat: that's why you can enjoy the clearest water there. In Filicudi, which is slightly larger, we hired a motorbike and enjoyed the best "mulberry granita" of the week.

Simply heaven. Relaxing, it detaches from the frenzy of everyday life. Regenerates body and mind
